Item No. H-078
The Portrait of Queen Sikirit of Thailand is a contemporary gem portrait, carved in precious aquamarine, in high cameo relief style, weighing 547.7 carats. It is displayed in a fitted sterling silver base. The 7/8 posture was chosen so that she would look at us, but not straight forward. Only one ear is revealed. A slight elongation gives a serene expression. The coiffure offered an unlimited field for abstract expression of interlocking forms and volumes.
Dimensions: 2.5” H x 1.5” W x 1 ¼” D
It graced the cover of Lapidary Journal, June 2002 issue (see Publications, under The About the Gem Art Center tab)
